What is a Single Stakes About?
A Single Stakes About (SSA) consists of two conditional bets from 2 selections. If selection A wins, the return becomes the stake on selection B, and vice versa. It is the simplest form of conditional betting.
How It Works
An SSA has exactly 2 bets (total stake = 2 units):
- Bet 1: Stake on A. If A wins, one unit from the winnings goes onto B
- Bet 2: Stake on B. If B wins, one unit from the winnings goes onto A
SSA vs Double
A double requires both to win for any return. An SSA gives you a return if only 1 wins (from the losing direction’s conditional). If both win, you get returns from both conditional chains, often exceeding a simple double.
Example
$10 SSA on A (3.00) and B (2.50). Total stake: $20.
- If both win: A returns $30 → $10 conditional on B at 2.50 = $25. B returns $25 → $10 conditional on A at 3.00 = $30. Total: $55 (profit $35)
- If only A wins: $30 from A, $10 conditional on B loses. Net return: $20 (break even)
- If neither wins: Lose $20
The SSA is a popular conditional bet because it provides more ways to win than a straight double, at the cost of just one extra unit of stake.
