What is Asian Handicap Betting?
Asian Handicap eliminates the draw by giving one team a virtual advantage or disadvantage. Unlike European handicaps, Asian Handicaps use half and quarter goal lines, creating more nuanced betting options.
Line Types
- Whole Lines (0, ±1, ±2): Win, Lose, or Push (stake refunded)
- Half Lines (±0.5, ±1.5): Win or Lose only — no draws possible
- Quarter Lines (±0.25, ±0.75): Your stake splits 50/50 across two adjacent lines
Quarter Line Example
$20 on Team A with a -0.75 handicap at 1.90:
- $10 goes on -0.5 and $10 goes on -1.0
- If Team A wins by 1: The -0.5 bet wins ($19), the -1.0 bet pushes ($10 refunded). Total return: $29
- If Team A wins by 2+: Both bets win. Total return: $38
- If draw: Both bets lose. Return: $0
Why Use Asian Handicaps?
Asian Handicaps typically offer better odds than traditional 1X2 markets because eliminating the draw reduces the bookmaker’s margin. The quarter lines add flexibility, allowing partial wins and losses rather than all-or-nothing outcomes.
Reading Asian Handicap Lines
A negative handicap (-1.5) means the team must win by more than 1.5 goals. A positive handicap (+1.5) means the team can lose by up to 1 goal and you still win. The 0 line (draw no bet) refunds your stake on a draw.
