What is a Fido Bet?
A Fido consists of 20 bets from 5 selections: a mix of doubles and trebles. It provides good coverage at a moderate stake cost compared to a full Canadian (26 bets).
Breakdown
- 10 × Doubles (all possible pairs from 5 selections)
- 10 × Trebles (all possible triples from 5 selections)
- Total: 20 bets
Fido vs Canadian
A Canadian has 26 bets (10 doubles + 10 trebles + 5 four-folds + 1 five-fold). A Fido removes the four-folds and five-fold, reducing stake by 6 units. You miss out on the highest-return combinations but save on total outlay.
Example
$1 Fido on 5 selections all at 2.50 (total stake: $20):
- If all 5 win: 10 doubles ($6.25 each) + 10 trebles ($15.63 each) = $62.50 + $156.30 = $218.80
- If 3 of 5 win: 3 winning doubles + 1 winning treble
- If 2 win: 1 winning double only
