What is an Accumulator?

An accumulator (acca) combines four or more selections into a single bet. All selections must win for the bet to return. The appeal is the compounding effect — even modest odds produce large potential returns.

How to Calculate

Return = Stake × Odds1 × Odds2 × … × OddsN

Example

$2 four-fold at 1.80, 2.10, 1.60, 2.50:

  • Return = $2 × 1.80 × 2.10 × 1.60 × 2.50 = $30.24
  • Profit = $28.24

Risk vs Reward

The more selections you add, the higher the potential return — but the lower the probability of winning. A 5-fold with each selection at 50% probability has only a 3.1% chance of winning. This is why accumulators are sometimes called “mug bets” — the house edge compounds with each leg.

Accumulator vs Full Cover Bets

An accumulator is a single bet — one loser and you lose everything. Full cover alternatives like the Yankee (4 selections, 11 bets) or Canadian (5 selections, 26 bets) cost more but give partial returns when not all selections win. Consider your risk tolerance when choosing between them.

Each-Way Accumulators

An each-way accumulator places two bets — one for all selections to win, one for all to place. The place part provides a safety net with reduced odds (typically 1/4 or 1/5).
